I Am Who I Say I Am

Who do you see in the mirror?  What do you believe about the person you see there?

I applied for a job recently and when a potential employer looked at my social media profile, it wasn’t at all similar to the job for which I was applying.  I had not changed my profile in some time and a lot of things had changed since then.  After getting annoyed with the potential employer for his (I assumed a he) snarky response and realizing I would have looked me up too, it occurred to me that I was not the same person in the profile anymore although in some ways I still saw myself as I used to be. 

Maybe I hadn’t updated my profile because I was busy, but maybe it was because I wasn’t really sure who I was or what I was really doing with my life anymore.  As I thought about it, it occurred to me that what you believe about yourself will become true and determines what and who you will become. 

In other words, you are what and who you believe you are.

So I changed my profile to not only who I am now, but the person that I want and believe I will be. 

A person’s belief system is incredibly powerful and whatever you believe about yourself will determine what you become and will come true.  If you believe you will be unsuccessful, however you define that to be, then you will be.  But the reverse is true too.

If you realize that your beliefs will determine the rest of your life and have real effects on tomorrow, then you also realize the power of your own thought. 

So how do you change your negative thoughts about yourself into more positive ones?  There are two ways to approach this.  One way is to catch and redirect any negative thought you have about yourself when it occurs.  Another way is to visualize in a positive way the person or traits that you want to have about yourself.  There are many articles and suggestions on these and other ways to change your thoughts you can reference. 

So when you look in the mirror, see the person you want to be.  You are who you say you are!
